Tri-County Red Cross Volunteers

The Tri-County Red Cross is happy to announce April's Volunteer of the Month, to the late Anita D, Kish (9/10/1915 - 4/1/2008).

Kish was one of the historical Red Cross Gray Ladies, named for the volunteer uniforms they wore during WWII. She lived in Fanwood and volunteered for over 20 years at various organizations in the Central NJ area. We were proud to call Mrs. Kish a friend as she helped out at blood drives and shared stories about the wonderful things the Red Cross did in her local community.

"Mrs. Kish's accomplishments are an inspiration to us all," said Nathan Rudy, CEO of the Tri-County Red Cross chapter.  "We are honored to have had her as a volunteer."

Her award was accepted by lifelong friend, Lieselotte Schmiede of Fanwood.

If you would like to volunteer for the Tri-County Red Cross please contact our Director of Youth and Volunteer Services at 908-756-6414 or email webbv@usa.redcross.org.

Blood donors and volunteers needed in New JerseyThe Tri-County Red Cross is seeking volunteers to help with intake and education at blood drives throughout Union, Middlesex and Somerset Counties.  You do not need any medical training, and you will not be involved in actually drawing, storing or coming in contact with the blood.

Volunteers simply greet donors, take their basic information and pass them on to the blood services staff.  After a donor completes their donation, volunteers ensure donors drink fluids and eat a snack and are given information about how to be healthy after giving blood.

We are also always looking for people to donate and new locations to hold blood drives!  If you are interested in volunteering, donating or hosting a blood drive, please contact Victor Webb at (908) 756-6414 or webbv@usa.redcross.org.

Become a disaster volunteer and help others when they are most in need.Whenever disaster strikes in the Tri-County area, disaster volunteers from the Tri-County Red Cross come and provide shelter, food and clothing for victims when necessary. Volunteers are scheduled for just a few nights a month, and go out if local disasters occur when they are on the schedule.

All disaster training is free, and disaster volunteers also receive free first aid/CPR training. There are different levels of disaster volunteers, and if your volunteer work takes you away from home to respond to a disaster or get training we will pay for your trip, as well.

If you have experience in marketing or fundraising, or are just interested in learning more or helping out, we'd love to have you on board with us!

Many of our programs and events - including the HEROES campaign and Clara Barton Society -- are chaired and managed by volunteers. Participating in the planning and implementation of these important fundraising efforts not only assists the Red Cross in funding its work in the community, but can also be personally rewarding and develop professional skills.

We also need volunteers and interns to help staff and market our services at street fairs and community events, design our website and brochures, plan new programs and events, and provide advice to our staff on improving our work.

If you are a high school or college student interested in a Tri-County Red Cross internship, please contact Senior Director Denise Neto at (908) 756-6414 or netod@usa.redcross.org. A Red Cross internship is an excellent addition to any college application or job letter.

If you are out of school and with to use your skills as a volunteer in our marketing and fundraising committee, please contact Volunteer Director Victor Webb at (908) 756-6414 or webbv@usa.redcross.org.

Wyclef Jean, a member of the American Red Cross celebrity cabinet and a great New Jersey representative, wants you to be a Red Cross volunteer.
