Lifeguard Training

COST: $230.00

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguard program is to teach participants the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to acquatic emergencies.  The course includes CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid as well.

Hours: approx 32 hrs

Prerequisites:

• Minimum age of 15 by course completion
• Complete Pre-test which consists of the following:

                        1. 100 yards-front crawl

                        2. 100 yards-breastroke

                        3. 100 yards-either front crawl and/or breastroke

                        4. swim 20 yards and surface dive to minimum 7 feet and retrieve 10 lbs object return to surface swim 20 yards to starting point, exit water without using ladder or steps within 1 minute and 40 seconds

Certifications: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer valid for 1 year; First Aid valid for 3 years; Lifeguarding valid for 3 years.

Water Safety Instructor - **pre registration required!

COST: $250.00

F.I.T (Fundamentals of Instructors Training included)

This program is designed to train instructor candidates to teach water safety, including the Basic Water Rescue course, six levels of the Learn to Swim and Parent and Child Aquatics.

Hours: approx 35 hrs with FIT

Prerequisites:

• minimum age of 16 by course completion
• valid American Red Cross F.I.T certificate or be a current Red Cross Instructor
• Successfully complete the pre-course session consisting of:

                  1. 25 yards-Front Crawl

                  2. 25 yards-Back Crawl

                  3. 25 yards-Breastroke

                  4. 15 yards-Butterfly

                  5. 25 yards-Elementary Back

                  6. 25 yards-Sidestroke

                  7. Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (sculling or floating)

                  8. Tread water for 1 minute
