Dear Red Cross Friend ,
When Jacqueline Hardy of Plainfield stood watching her Central Avenue home on fire last July it was a devastating moment, being forced to watch her kitchen, bed and clothes go up in smoke.
But fortunately the Tri-County Red Cross was there right away. Our disaster action team volunteers arrived while the fire department battled the blaze, offering comfort and the knowledge that shelter, food and clothing were taken care of. Jacqueline didn't have to worry about her basic needs, and could focus on recovering from the loss and rebuilding her home.
Red Cross volunteers helped hundreds of families in the last year, responding more than 60 times when fire departments called to tell us there was another family displaced due to local disaster.
These volunteers -- who give up their family dinners, sleep and work -- rely on the generosity of local people, businesses and organizations who donate the financial resources they need to help when things are bleakest. The Tri-County Red Cross receives no governmental money to provide these services, but is required by Congress to be there.
The Tri-County Red Cross is launching a Sustaining Members program to fund these and other disaster prevention, preparedness and relief services in communities like Plainfield. Sustaining Members agree to contribute a small amount each month - between $10 and $100 - to the Tri-County Red Cross via credit card. Google Checkout has donated the credit card processing, so every dollar goes to Red Cross services.
Please consider becoming a sustaining member today, providing the financial resources to provide shelter, food and clothing for families who lose their homes to fire and floods in the tri-county area.
Thank you,
Nathan Rudy
Executive Director, Tri-County Red Cross
